Pencils come in loads of different forms, whether traditional pencils or automatic propelling pencils.

Our office pencils are favoured by accounts people and architects because of the ease of corrections should they need to erase work.  Accountants tend to use traditional office pencils and draftsmen and architects usually use automatic pencils as they have a sharper nib (as fine as 0.3mm).

Traditional Pencils

The traditional pencil is also available in different qualities, the Staedler Tradition pencil being one of the best day to day office pencils available because of its strong lead that has a slow wear.  The staedler Tradition pencil comes in several grades starting at 4H which is the hardest (H standing for hard), then 3H and 2H.  The most common lead is the HB which is available with and without an eraser tip and then there are the 2B, 3B and the 4B (B standing for black).

Propelling Pencil

A propelling pencil is often referred to as an automatic pencil or mechanical pencil.  Years ago there was only a small selection of propelling pencils available, from manufacturers such as Staedler, Pentel and Faber Castell.  There were no disposable ones either, they were good quality refillable pencils and you replaced the leads and erasers.  These days there are many suppliers that make them, such as Papermate and Bic and the majority are now throw away and not refillable.

The most common was the Pentel 0.5mm automatic pencil, however there were also 0.3mm, 0.7mm and 0.9mm.  The leads were available in a variety of different grades, but the most common, like the standard office pencil was HB.

Anti-Shock Pencils

There is also the Staedler Wopex pencil that is manufactured from a natural fibre and is made from only 70% wood.  The Staedler Wopex pencil also has and anti-shock layer that prevents the lead from snapping so easily when dropped.

All of the Staedler office pencils are PEFC certified, which means they are manufactured from wood that is from sustainable managed forests and controlled sources.

Cheap Pencils

Octopus also supply a 5 Star Pencil that is cheaper and they are available in HB only and come with or without an eraser tip.  They have a traditional red hexagonal barrel.  Half pencils are also stocked for use by golf clubs or wherever a small pencil is required.  The are bulk boxed in quantities of 144 and have a natural wooden barrel.
